The Hunger Games Chapter 8 Summary: Katniss, Rue, and the Tracker Jackers

In Chapter 8 of The Hunger Games, Katniss wakes up in the woods after the first night of the Games. She realizes that Rue, the young girl from District 11, has been following her. Katniss feels a mixture of suspicion and gratitude towards Rue, as she is unsure of Rue's intentions. However, Rue proves to be helpful by pointing out a tracker jacker nest (deadly wasps) near Katniss' hiding spot. Rue warns her to run, and they both escape the swarm of tracker jackers, but not before Katniss is stung several times. \n\nAfter the attack, Katniss becomes disoriented and hallucinates due to the tracker jacker venom. She sees a vision of her father, who helps her regain her focus. Rue, who has been observing the situation from a distance, helps Katniss by mimicking a mockingjay's song, distracting the Careers. This allows Katniss to escape and find Rue, and they form a plan to destroy the Careers' food supply. \n\nThe chapter ends with Katniss and Rue executing their plan, as they manage to set fire to the Careers' supplies. As they flee from the scene, Katniss hears the cannon fire, indicating that one of the Careers has been killed.
