摘要：Diatoms are important primary producers in marine ecosystems, and their abundance and distribution are influenced by various environmental factors. In this study, we investigated the effects of nutrient limitation and competitive advantage on diatom abundance in a low-nutrient area of the South China Sea. Our results showed that diatom biomass increased significantly under low-nutrient conditions when nutrient supply was supplemented with nitrogen and phosphorus. Furthermore, diatom biomass was positively correlated with the competitive advantage of diatoms over other phytoplankton groups, indicating that diatoms may have a competitive advantage under low-nutrient conditions. These findings provide insights into the ecological mechanisms that regulate diatom abundance in low-nutrient environments and have important implications for ecosystem management and conservation.
