Dry Cleaning Guide for Wool, Silk, and Fugitive Dyes

Some fibers, such as wool and silk, require dry-cleaning as they react negatively to water. However, some fabrics can be hand-washed and ironed if mild detergent and appropriate temperatures are used. Wool tends to shrink, hence it is usually dry-cleaned. Improper washing may cause fragile silks to spot or discolor. Fabrics colored with fugitive dyes must also be dry-cleaned as they may bleed and cause discoloration to other fabrics. Before purchasing a garment, carefully read the care label sewn into it and consider if the care required is compatible with your intended use of the garment.
