Topdressing: How Sand Builds Barriers on Golf Greens

This is what we call in the industry 'topdressing' with sand to level out the surface, as well as other sand particles blown in from nearby sand traps, and the discoloration that doesn't gather in the low areas of the green. This will cause it to build up over years, forming this barrier, so surface water cannot flow through.
