My favorite course in college was microbiology. I was always fascinated by the way tiny organisms could have such a huge impact on our health and well-being. One day, during a lab session, I was examining a sample under the microscope when I noticed something strange. The bacteria I was studying seemed to be moving in a coordinated way, almost like a school of fish. I spent the rest of the afternoon observing them and trying to figure out what was going on. It turned out that the bacteria were communicating with each other by releasing chemical signals, a phenomenon known as quorum sensing. This experience made me realize that there is so much we still don't know about the microbial world, and it inspired me to pursue a career in public health and infectious disease research.
