Autophagy in Oral Tissue Regeneration: Mechanisms, Regulation, and Therapeutic Potential
This review focuses on the role of autophagy in regulating stem cells and promoting oral tissue regeneration. We explore how autophagy helps oral stem cells cope with stress and provide an overview of the autophagy process in eukaryotic cells. Additionally, we review the different ways in which autophagy contributes to oral tissue regeneration and discuss the molecular mechanisms underlying this process. We also examine the potential of small molecule drugs, biomaterials, exosomes/RNAs, and other treatments to regulate autophagy and enhance oral tissue regeneration. Finally, we propose new directions for future research on autophagy manipulation and tissue regeneration. Although the exact mechanism by which autophagy supports oral tissue regeneration is not fully understood, further studies could help develop new therapeutic strategies. Ultimately, this review aims to provide valuable insights into the regeneration of human tissue and inspire further investigation into the role of autophagy in oral and other tissue regeneration.
