Enhanced Yield Potential in Modern Maize Hybrid (XianYu 335) Attributable to Novel Shoot-Root Morphology

Compared to the traditional maize hybrid (ZhengDan 958), the modern hybrid (XianYu 335) displays improved yield potential, with the highest grain yield recorded at 14.9 Mg ha^-1 when cultivated at a density of 7.5 × 10^4 plants ha^-1. This increase in yield can be primarily attributed to the unique shoot-root interaction in morphology observed in the modern hybrid.
