The modern hybrid (XianYu 335) achieved the highest grain yield of 14.9 Mg ha-1 with a density of 7.5 × 104 plants ha-1, surpassing the traditional maize hybrids (ZhengDan 958) and reaching the level of the yield potential in the North China Plain (Nature Communications, 2021).
