Leaf Area Index Response to Plant Density: A Plateau Effect

When the density was at a low level, the maximum leaf area index (LAI) per unit area increased significantly as density increased. However, when the density was at a high level, the LAI increased gradually until it reached a maximum value, after which it remained constant (reached a plateau).
