Impact of Planting Density on Maize Yield in North America: A Significant Increase
In North America, the optimal planting density (OPD) has increased by approximately 1.8 × 104 plants ha-1, leading to a corresponding increase in yield of 3.5 Mg ha-1 from 1987 to 2016 (Assefa et al., 2018). The contribution of planting density to maize yield gain ranges from 8.5% to 17%.
