Teacher Retention at Private Universities in Hubei Province, China: A Qualitative Study

This qualitative study investigates teacher retention at private universities in Hubei Province, China, aiming to understand the factors influencing teacher retention, challenges faced by these institutions, current strategies implemented, and potential solutions for improvement. Interviews were conducted with faculty, teaching administrators, student administrators, and other relevant individuals. The research addresses four key questions:

1. Factors Influencing Teacher Retention:

   • What are the main reasons why teachers choose to stay at private universities in Hubei Province?
   • Are there any specific factors that influence teachers' decisions to leave private universities in Hubei Province?
   • In your opinion, what are the most important factors that contribute to teacher retention at private universities in Hubei Province?

2. Challenges to Teacher Retention:

   • In your experience, what are the biggest challenges faced by private universities in Hubei Province in retaining teachers?
   • Are there any specific issues or obstacles that private universities in Hubei Province encounter when trying to retain teachers?
   • What do you think could be done to address these challenges and improve teacher retention at private universities in Hubei Province?

3. Current Strategies for Teacher Retention:
