The Meaning of Happiness: A Chinese Perspective

In the pre-Qin period, "the Five Blessings" concept of happiness was proposed in the Book of Documents. Currently, profound changes are taking place in Chinese society, and the Chinese people's concept of happiness has been endowed with new meaning, reflecting the Chinese nation's yearning for a better life. I believe that living in a harmonious community is happiness. This community can be individual families, our country, or even our planet.\n\nA harmonious family is happiness. Some say that happiness is having a home to return to, someone waiting for you, and food to eat. The so-called "peaceful and prosperous life" is nothing more than the warm soup at home and the light that is always on for you. For me, the happiest moment of the year is during the Spring Festival, when the whole family sits around a round table, eating the reunion dinner and watching the Spring Festival Gala. After dinner, washing dishes with my mother, gossiping about the trivialities of life, the whole family enjoying each other's company, filled with laughter and joy. The well-being and good health of family members without any illness or pain is surely the aspiration of most Chinese people.\n\nA prosperous country is happiness. Born in a poor mountain village, I have witnessed the development of my hometown and the growth of my motherland. Roads have been built and tall buildings have been erected in the village, and the lives of the villagers have gradually become more affluent. By 2020, China has fully entered a moderately prosperous society. In addition, over the past three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, China has always prioritized the safety and health of the people, safeguarding their lives and minimizing the impact of the epidemic on economic and social development. China protects the legitimate rights and interests of every Chinese citizen, which is the solemn commitment of the motherland to its citizens. Whenever overseas Chinese are in danger, the motherland always brings them home. Every evacuation operation reported in the news always brings tears to my eyes, and I am proud to be Chinese.\n\nWorld peace is happiness. I am fortunate to live in a peaceful era, without experiencing continuous wars and human suffering, without having to pick up a gun at the age of ten. I am fortunate to be able to communicate and interact with friends of different races and ethnicities, and to understand their national cultures and customs. Every nation is striving to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
