FLASH Navigation: Image-Guided Surgery with Machine Vision
FLASH Navigation, developed by SeaSpine in California, is an innovative image-guided system that utilizes machine vision to generate a 3D image of a patient's bone anatomy. This is achieved through the use of a non-ionizing flash and high-resolution stereoscopic camera. During surgery, the system emits visible light to construct a digital map of the exposed vertebral body, which is then compared with preoperative CT data of the spine. It should be noted that this system is mainly suitable for minimally invasive surgery since it necessitates the bone to be exposed for accurate registration.
