Translation Software in College Translation Assignments: A Mixed-Methods Study

Title: A Study on the Use of Translation Software by College Students When Completing Translation Assignments\n\nIntroduction:\nTranslation software has become increasingly prevalent in today's digital world, offering college students a convenient tool for completing translation assignments. This study aims to investigate the impact of translation software on the translation process and the quality of translated texts produced by college students. By examining the use of translation software, this research seeks to contribute to the broader understanding of technology-assisted translation and its implications for language learning and proficiency development.\n\nTo conduct this study, a mixed-methods approach will be employed, combining qualitative interviews with college students majoring in translation studies and a quantitative analysis of the translated texts produced with and without the aid of translation software. The research participants will be selected from a Chinese-English translation course at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), following the principles of random sampling to ensure representativeness.\n\nThe theoretical framework guiding this research will draw upon relevant literature on translation studies, computer-assisted translation, and second language acquisition. Key concepts such as the impact of translation software on accuracy, fluency, and efficiency will be explored, while considering the potential challenges and limitations associated with its usage.\n\nThe findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the use of translation software by college students, shedding light on its advantages and drawbacks. Furthermore, the results will inform pedagogical practices in translation education, offering insights into how educators can effectively integrate translation software into the curriculum to enhance students' translation skills and overall language proficiency.\n\nIn conclusion, this research aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the use of translation software by college students when completing translation assignments.
