Balancing Gaokao Preparation with a Well-Rounded Education: A Unique Approach in a Chinese Public School

///'I study in a public school in China, where the notorious Gaokao exam holds significant importance for students. This one-time test is believed to determine our entire future. As a result, we find ourselves constantly repeating and memorizing materials, engaging in countless practice sessions, and forgetting the true essence of education. We become so consumed by this exam that we fail to realize it is not the sole defining factor in our lives. most schools finish all the contents in two years and use the third year to review the contents. Our school have chosen 40 smart kids from middle school to skip grade 9, and take grade 10 course when we are still in grade 9, thus we finish the all the course in early first semester of grade 11, leaving us almost 2 years to repeat and review the materials for the Gaokao exam. This approach may seem unconventional, but it allows us to have a deeper understanding of the subjects and encourages critical thinking rather than rote memorization. By finishing the curriculum ahead of schedule, we have the luxury of revisiting and reinforcing our knowledge, exploring different learning methods, and delving into subjects that interest us beyond the scope of the Gaokao exam. This unique opportunity ensures that we not only excel in the exam but also develop a well-rounded education that goes beyond the confines of standardized testing.///
