Gabe said, ‘It is going to be a toy tree.’ His mum looked at him, confused. ‘What do you mean, Gabe?’

‘We can put tags on the branches, like the toy tree in town. People can take a tag and buy the toy on it for a child who might not get any New Year presents. And we can hang the toys on the tree, too.’

Mum’s eyes lit up. ‘That’s a great idea, Gabe.’

Mr. Snider looked at them, annoyed. ‘I don’t have time for this nonsense.’

But Gabe and his friends didn’t give up. They put the tags on the tree and waited. Slowly, people in the estate started to take tags and buy toys. They hung the toys on the branches, and the tree became more colourful and beautiful than ever before. Mr. Snider still grumbled, but he stopped threatening to cut the tree down.

By the weekend, the charity tags had arrived. Gabe and his friends spent the day hanging them on the tree. People stopped to look and take tags. They talked to each other and smiled. The toy tree had brought the community together. And when New Year came, the tree was covered in toys and tags, waiting to bring joy to the children who needed it most.
