The Toy Tree: A Symbol of Community Spirit and Kindness

Gabe said, 'It is going to be a toy tree.' Mr. Snider looked at Gabe and Mum in disbelief, 'A what?'

'A toy tree,' Gabe repeated. 'We're going to decorate it with gift tags for children who need presents this New Year.'

Mr. Snider looked at the tree, then at the gift tags. 'Well, I'll be,' he muttered. 'All right, you win. I won't cut it down.'

Gabe and Mum cheered. They ran home to start making the gift tags. They invited all their friends to come and help decorate the tree. They hung the tags on the branches, each one with a different toy on it. They hoped someone would take one and buy the gift for a child in need.

By the weekend, the charity tags had arrived. Gabe and his friends got to work, replacing some of the tags with the new ones. They were happy to see some tags were already missing and hoped it meant some children would receive the gifts they wanted.

The toy tree stayed in the garden all year round, decorated with different themes for different occasions. It became a symbol of community spirit and kindness for all to enjoy. Mr. Snider even took to sweeping the path around the tree with a little more care and attention. And when he did, he would smile and say, 'That's a nice tree you've got there.'
