PS-F2 Enhances Macrophage Activity and Protects Mice from Listeria monocytogenes Infection
To assess the antimicrobial effects in vivo, mice were exposed to L. monocytogenes with or without prior treatment with PS-F2. As depicted in Fig. 4c, pre-administration of PS-F2 to mice 48 hours prior to L. monocytogenes infection significantly decreased the presence of bacteria in both the liver and spleen. Taken together, our findings indicate that PS-F2 induces macrophages to trigger an inflammatory response, generate NO, and enhance phagocytosis, ultimately safeguarding animals against bacterial infections.
