Two Different Teaching Styles: Traditional vs. Modern
Two different teaching styles
As we all know, teaching style is a crucial factor that can affect students' learning outcomes. In my opinion, there are two main types of teaching styles: the traditional and the modern. Here are my thoughts on these two different teaching styles.
Firstly, the traditional teaching style is characterized by the teacher-centred approach, where the teacher is seen as the authority figure in the classroom. The teacher is responsible for delivering lectures, assigning homework, and grading students' work. In this style, students are expected to listen to the teacher and take notes. This style is often used in subjects such as history, literature, and mathematics.
For example, when I was in high school, my mathematics teacher used the traditional teaching style. He stood at the front of the class and delivered lectures on the board. He would explain the concepts and give us problems to solve. We were expected to complete our homework every night and come to class prepared to discuss any issues we had.
On the other hand, the modern teaching style is characterized by the student-centred approach, where the teacher is seen as a facilitator of learning. The teacher's role is to create a learning environment where students can explore and discover new knowledge. In this style, students are encouraged to ask questions, work collaboratively, and participate in activities. This style is often used in subjects such as science, art, and language.
For instance, when I was in college, my art history professor used the modern teaching style. Instead of lecturing, she would show us pictures and ask us to analyze them. She would encourage us to ask questions and share our thoughts. We would work in groups to create art projects that related to the topics we were studying.
In conclusion, both teaching styles have their strengths and weaknesses. The traditional teaching style is useful for subjects that require a lot of memorization and practice, while the modern teaching style is useful for subjects that require critical thinking and creativity. It is up to the teacher to choose the teaching style that works best for their subject and their students.
