The Role of AI in Education: Enhancing Learning While Preserving Human Connection
AI has undoubtedly impacted education in administration, instruction, and learning. While some have expressed concerns about AI's challenge to education, it holds the potential to flourish with the help of AI technology.
Firstly, AI can improve education equality and inclusion. AI-powered tools provide access to education for individuals with disabilities, such as text-to-speech software for individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, AI can help bridge the digital divide by providing access to education in remote or underprivileged areas. This approach aligns with the objectives of education for sustainable development, promoting equity to ensure a better quality of life for everyone, now and for future generations.
Secondly, AI can help meet students' demands and personalize learning experiences. By analyzing students' data, including their learning style, pace, and progress, AI can provide customized learning experiences, leading to better learning outcomes. AI can also save students time by grading their work and providing targeted support to identify gaps in knowledge. Additionally, AI-powered tools such as virtual tutors and chatbots can promote positive learning emotions.
However, educators should note that AI teachers cannot replace human teachers in the classroom. Firstly, educators teach learners skills and knowledge, but also cultivate their moral concepts. In this way, schools play an essential role because they provide a place for educators to communicate face-to-face with learners. Secondly, learners, especially children, may be confused with the differences between human and machine teachers. Human teachers can help children establish relationships with people and develop their social awareness, including social skills and problem-solving abilities, which are crucial for building a sense of identity and inclusion in society.
Therefore, well-rounded students cannot solely be taught by automatic teachers, and human teachers remain essential. AI can support and enhance the learning experience, but cannot replace the vital role of human teachers in education.
