Given the crucial role of maize-based crop rotations in maintaining global food security, it is imperative to comprehensively understand how preceding crops and associated management practices impact subsequent maize growth. To address this need, we conducted a 6-year field experiment within the North China Plain's annual winter wheat and summer maize rotation system.
