Surgical Intervention for Gastric Cancer: Japanese Guidelines and Considerations

Additional surgical intervention may be recommended in cases of incomplete resection, submucosal invasion exceeding 500 μm, the presence of tumor cells in blood vessels or lymphatic vessels, or positive margins (both lateral and vertical). These recommendations are in accordance with the guidelines for gastric cancer treatment established by the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association. Other factors that may warrant additional surgical intervention include advanced stage of the cancer, the presence of metastases, and patient age and overall health status.
