Data, Information, BI, and Knowledge: Understanding the Relationship

Data is raw, unstructured facts and figures. Information is data that has been processed and organized to provide meaning. Business Intelligence is the process of collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to support decision-making. Knowledge is understanding gained from information and experience. Data is the foundation of information, which in turn is the foundation of BI. BI helps to turn information into knowledge by providing insights and context for decision-making.
