Transgender Woman Sues NYC Yoga Studio for $5 Million Over Locker Room Discrimination
A transgender woman is suing a yoga studio in New York City for $5 million after she was allegedly forced to use the men's locker room. The woman, who has not been named, claims that she was humiliated and traumatized when she was told she couldn't use the women's locker room.
According to the lawsuit, the woman had been attending classes at the Modo Yoga studio in Greenwich Village for several months when the incident occurred in May 2019. She says she was approached by a male employee who told her she couldn't use the women's locker room because she was 'still a man.'
The woman says she was then forced to use the men's locker room, where she was subjected to harassment and verbal abuse from other men. She says she felt 'unsafe and unwelcome' and was left with no choice but to leave the studio.
The lawsuit accuses Modo Yoga of discrimination and violating the New York City Human Rights Law, which prohibits discrimination based on gender identity. The woman is seeking $5 million in damages for emotional distress, humiliation, and lost income.
The yoga studio has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
