Carbon Steel Coil Production: From Ironstone to Steel Plate
The speaker, Wubi, from the special material and devices department, formerly an engineer at Ansteel, shared the process of producing a coil of carbon steel. The ironstone is mixed with reductive coke and heated to 2000 centigrade in a blast furnace to refine melting iron. The melting iron is sent to a steel make workshop where carbon and other deleterious elements are eliminated, and the steel is coasted into a slab continuously. The hot steel slab is transported to a hot-rolling mill and rolled from 20 millimeters to 6-2 millimeters and crimped into a coil. The coil is cold rolled to 2-0.45 millimeters and annealed, resulting in a bright surface and desired mechanical property. This story takes the audience from a shining stone to a wonderful steel plate, with ironstone changing to melting steel liquid and coasted into a thick slab. The thick slab passes through hot and cold rolling to transform into the final product, a steel plate.
