Unit-Based Teaching: Beyond Simple Aggregation, Fostering Deep Learning and Core Literacy

Professor Wang Qiang pointed out that 'unit-based teaching' is not simply putting a few lessons together, but rather based on students' cognitive development, consisting of several interrelated sub-topics. This approach aims to achieve the goals of unit-based teaching by emphasizing integration and integrity. It enables teachers to achieve the best results with less time and effort within the given time frame, ensuring a focus on key concepts, logical arrangements, and natural learning processes. This requires teachers to deeply understand the language texts and related teaching resources of each unit, combine students' cognitive logic to design unit teaching objectives, plan unit teaching activities, guide students to explore the learning content and thematic significance of each language text in the unit, gradually construct and generate deep-level cognition, attitudes, and values around the unit theme, and ultimately promote the development of students' English core literacy.
