Bekantan (Proboscis Monkey): Facts, Habitat, and Conservation

Bekantan, also known as the proboscis monkey, is a species of Old World monkey native to Borneo. They're known for their distinctive appearance, with a large protruding nose and pot-bellied stomach. The males have much larger noses than the females, which is believed to be a result of sexual selection. They are primarily arboreal and are found in mangrove forests, swamps, and riverside forests. Bekantan are considered endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. Efforts are being made to protect their habitat and increase their population.
