Scleraldehyde: A Promising Biopreservative for Leather Processing
Scleraldehyde was utilized as a biopreservative to preserve raw hides and skins. Studies have shown that it can effectively prevent hair slip, the generation of odors and extractable nitrogen, and the proliferation of collagenolytic and proteolytic bacteria in goat skin [22]. These findings suggest that scleraldehyde may serve as a substitute for NaCl in leather processing as a preservative.
