Schizophyllan: Structure and Production by S. commune

The filamentous fungus S. commune produces Schizophyllan, which is an exopolysaccharide that contains a homoglucan. The homoglucan has a b-(1→3)-linked backbone with single b-(1→6)-linked glucose side chains occurring at approximately every third residue. This compound is referred to as Schizophyllan and is produced by strains of the aforementioned fungus.
