American Healthcare Crisis: The Root of the Problem Lies in Politics
One of the largest problems with America's healthcare system isn't quite the system itself, but rather America's unstable political landscape and the control that insurance companies have over it. Insurance companies have a firm grip on hospitals, as free healthcare is not administered by the government, allowing mass corporations to step in and use this as an opportunity to make a profit. This is a result of mass greed in American society (limited government spending on services, compared to a more economically liberal country, like Canada), however, this has been socially in decline in recent years. The healthcare problem is rooted in politics, as essentially all government spending habits are. The Democratic party and Republican party are simply too radical, in contrast to other developed countries.
This rift has only been growing lately, and has been made worse by the huge diversity of people in the United States, for example, people who live in rural, lower income areas are more inclined to vote Republican, in contrast to those in urban environments, who would usually vote Democratic. This is because the Democratic party appeals to the urban landscape much more. This is a huge issue, as there is no good solution to the healthcare issue without restructuring the whole American political landscape. This issue is not present in Canada, as both the Canadian Liberal and Conservative parties are much more centrist, meaning policies would apply to a wider population, increasing appeal and making the transition from the end of an election easier.
A more centrist American society would be much more beneficial for the healthcare system, as there is less rift in making political decisions, making policies more beneficial and more balanced. A fear that is common among the public is the rise of taxes if healthcare is made free, which is inevitable, but can be accounted for by reducing funding on less important services, which will be made easier by a more stable and centrist political landscape.
