Wideband Circularly-Polarized Magneto-Electric Dipole Antenna for X-Band Applications
This work presents the design of a circularly-polarized (CP) magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna for X-band applications. The antenna is designed to have a wide operating bandwidth, stable broadside radiation, and stable gain. The proposed antenna consists of a parasitic electric dipole and an irregular loop, which work together to produce equivalent radiation from the electric and magnetic dipoles. By arranging the dipole and loop in a specific geometry, the antenna effectively generates circularly-polarized wave propagation. To feed the antenna, a substrate integrated coaxial line (SICL) is used, which is fed through an aperture cutting on the ground. This feeding structure is the first of its kind to be used with ME dipole antennas. The proposed antenna achieves wide impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths of 39.6% (from 7.5 to 11.2 GHz, for the reflection coefficient ≤ -10 dB) and 27.4% (from 8.5 to 11.22 GHz, for the AR ≤ 3 dB), respectively. Additionally, the antenna maintains a stable broadside radiation pattern across the operating bandwidth, with an average gain of 10 dBic. This proposed antenna design is competitive for wireless communication in X-band applications.
