Heat Exacerbates Drought Stress: Water Replenishment as a Mitigation Strategy for Crop Resilience
The occurrence of heat often exacerbates drought stress by increasing atmospheric vapor pressure deficit and decreasing transpiration efficiency. Increasing soil water content (SWC) through water replenishment is an effective measure for improving crop resilience in heat. However, limited field observational evidence and an unclear understanding of the underlying mechanism for this mitigation exist.
