5 Types of Speech Acts: Verdictives, Exercitives, Commissives, Behabitives, and Expositives

(1) Verdictives are used to make judgments about the facts or values of things. They can also be used to provide an estimate, reckoning, or appraisal. (2) Exercitives are used to exercise a certain power, right, or influence. (3) Commissives are used to convey commitments and impose certain constraints on the interlocutor. (4) Behabitives are used to express a certain social attitude, including daily behavior. (5) Expositives are used to explain reasons, present arguments, and convey information.
