The History of Coca-Cola: How it All Started

Coca-Cola was created in 1886 by a pharmacist named John Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. Pemberton initially created a tonic called 'Pemberton's French Wine Coca' that was marketed as a cure-all for various ailments. However, in 1886, Atlanta passed a prohibition law that prohibited the sale of alcohol, which included Pemberton's tonic. In response, Pemberton removed the alcohol from the formula and replaced it with sugar syrup and other ingredients to create what we now know as Coca-Cola. The beverage was initially sold at soda fountains and quickly gained popularity, leading to the formation of the Coca-Cola Company in 1892.
