HOME (2009) Movie Review: Sustainability, Global Interconnectedness, and Quality of Life

'Eye-opening.'

The main message is that humans are causing irreversible damage to the planet and its ecosystems through our unsustainable practices and that urgent action is needed to prevent further harm. It is a widely held view among environmentalists and scientists, but not necessarily among the general population.

Some ways that people around the world are closely linked include global trade, travel, and communication, as well as shared resources such as air and water. We also share a common responsibility to protect the planet and its inhabitants.

The benefits of a more closely connected world include greater cultural exchange, increased access to resources and information, and the potential for collective action on global challenges. However, challenges include the spread of disease, conflict, and unequal distribution of resources and power.

The concept of sustainability is linked to a more closely connected world because it requires cooperation and collaboration across borders and sectors to address issues such as climate change and resource depletion.

According to the HPI, the top 10 countries are Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Panama, Nicaragua, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Ecuador.

Both HPI and HDI have their strengths and weaknesses in measuring quality of life. HPI focuses on sustainability and environmental factors, while HDI focuses on income, education, and life expectancy. Depending on the context and purpose, either index could be suitable. However, considering the urgent need for sustainable development and the interconnectedness of environmental and social issues, HPI may be more relevant in today's world.
