Dragon Boat Festival: Celebrating Tradition and Culture
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It's believed to have originated from the legend of Qu Yuan, a poet and minister who drowned himself in the Miluo River in protest against government corruption. People commemorate him by eating 'zongzi', a pyramid-shaped glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves, and racing dragon boats. The festival is also a time for families to gather and enjoy each other's company. It is an important cultural event in China and other parts of the world with Chinese communities.
