APA 7th Edition: How to Cite a Quote from Another Source
To cite someone else's quote using APA 7th style, follow these steps:
-
Start with the author's last name, followed by a comma and the initials of their first and middle names (if available).
-
Include the year of publication in parentheses.
-
Add the title of the work in italics, followed by a comma.
-
Include the page number(s) where the quote appears, preceded by 'p.' or 'pp.' (for multiple pages).
-
Place the entire citation in parentheses and end with a period.
Example:
According to Smith (2021), 'The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall' (p. 15).
Note: If the quote is longer than 40 words, it should be indented in a block quote format and cited differently.
