Abstract: Fei Xiaotong, in 'From the Soil: The Foundations of Chinese Society', identifies 'rurality' as a defining characteristic of traditional Chinese social forms. This conceptualization stems from the distinct structural features of traditional Chinese rural and urban societies. Since the land reform, rural China has undergone significant transformations in its social structure and cultural heritage, leading to the emergence of a new rural landscape. This paper aims to provide a summary and analysis of the modernization process of rural China based on the concept of 'From the Soil: The Foundations of Chinese Society'.
