Synergistic Effect of Ionizing Radiation and Chitosan on Mango Postharvest Anthracnose Control and Shelf-Life Extension
This study aimed to investigate the potential usefulness of a combination of ionizing radiation (IA) and chitosan (CTS) as a postharvest treatment strategy for controlling mango decay caused by postharvest anthracnose and extending shelf-life. The efficacy of IA and CTS alone or in combination was evaluated for controlling the severity of anthracnose lesions caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in mangoes, as well as their impact on weight loss, firmness, total soluble solids (TSS), peroxidase (POD) activity, and total carotenoid content of inoculated mangoes. The objective of this study was to investigate the combined efficacy of IA and CTS in maintaining the postharvest quality of mangoes, thus providing a novel method and approach for postharvest preservation treatments of mangoes, and offering a theoretical and technical basis for the application of synergistic IA and CTS treatment in the preservation of postharvest fruits and vegetables.
