Steering Tie Rod Failure Analysis Using Finite Element Static Analysis in CATIA
This article utilizes finite element static analysis in CATIA to conduct a failure analysis of the steering tie rod in automobiles. The material, structure, and working environment of the steering tie rod were first analyzed to identify its stress condition and failure mode. A finite element model of the steering tie rod was then established, followed by mesh division and boundary condition settings. Static analysis was employed to determine the stress and strain distribution of the tie rod. By comparing its stress and strength, the failure location and cause were identified, leading to proposed improvement measures. The research revealed that the failure of the steering tie rod is primarily attributed to fracture and plastic deformation caused by excessive stress. The primary failure location was identified as the transition region between the threaded and straight sections of the steering tie rod. To enhance the strength and reliability of the steering tie rod, the use of higher strength materials and optimized structural design is recommended to minimize stress concentration at the transition section.
