Online Training Course Introduction - PhD Student Studying POC Flux and Mesopelagic Zone Microbial Activity
Hello everyone,
My name is Lisa Li and I am a PhD student from the Department of Marine Chemistry at Xiamen University. My research focuses on optimizing and simulating the global oceanic particle organic carbon (POC) output flux. Specifically, I study the impact of riverine lithogenic ballasting effect on the global pattern of POC flux, changes in POC export under current and future climate scenarios, and the regulation of POC transfer to the deep ocean by temperature-dependent microbial degradation processes.
My primary research tool is the Community Earth System Model (CESM), which simulates the biogeochemical cycles of carbon, oxygen, and major nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, silicon, and iron that control the growth of marine phytoplankton. Through improving the descriptions of these three directions in CESM, I hope to reveal their effects on global POC flux and the underlying mechanisms involved.
I am excited to participate in this online training course to learn more about the impact of mesopelagic zone microbial activity on POC remineralization. Additionally, I am hoping to gain more knowledge about microscale experiments, and would appreciate any guidance or advice from the experts in this field.
Thank you all for your time and I am looking forward to learning and collaborating with you all!
