Broad Absorption Lines (BALs): Unveiling the Mystery Behind Velocity Shifts

Several potential causes have been proposed to explain the observed velocity shift of broad absorption lines (BALs). These include the actual acceleration or deceleration of the outflowing material along the observer's line of sight, the outflowing material passing through the observer's line of sight while moving in a circular motion around the central black hole, and changes in the physical properties of the outflowing material such as its ionization state and column density.
