Are we REALLY free? Many folks think so. They're like, 'We choose our thoughts and actions, just like swiping away that video!' And sure, I picked out this shirt this morning, and had those meat buns for breakfast. 'Totally my choice,' right?

But come on, we all know everything has a cause and effect. Every single thing happening right now is just the past playing out. So, you might think we're free, but also believe the world's a giant game of dominoes.

Take my breakfast. Two meat buns, a glass of soy milk. Free will says, 'That's just me, choosing!' But determinism is like, 'Nah, those thoughts didn't appear outta nowhere. There's a whole chain reaction leading you to that meat bun. Maybe the fried dough was too greasy, you were afraid of getting sick, the noodle soup was too dry, and you were too lazy to walk across the street. You just happened to be RIGHT THERE in front of the meat bun shop.

See, all those decisions? Just a bunch of mental events adding up. Determinists think free will is a big ol' mirage. Just like the 18th-century French philosopher Paul-Henri Thiry said,

'Everything that is happening now is the result of a continuous chain of events...' We're just parts of the physical world, following the rules of physics. Think your mind makes choices? Nope, that's your brain. Brain's biological. Biology's physical. And physics is all about cause and effect. No room for free will in this picture! We're all just gears in a giant machine, doing what we're destined to do.

Oedipus had to kill his father and marry his mother. I had to eat those meat buns and soy milk. And you? You just HAD to watch this video till the end. No choice, I tell ya! 😉

Are We REALLY Free? (Spoiler Alert: We're Just Meat Bun-Eating Machines)
