Climate Change: Causes, Effects, and Solutions
Climate Change
Climate change refers to a long-term shift in global weather patterns and temperatures. It is caused by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, which release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and trap heat. The effects of climate change include rising sea levels, more frequent and severe natural disasters, and changes in precipitation patterns.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is a scientific body established by the United Nations to provide policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis for climate change, its impacts, and options for adapting to and mitigating its effects.
Many countries have pledged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in order to limit the extent of climate change. The Paris Agreement, signed in 2015, aims to keep global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Individual actions, such as reducing energy consumption, using public transportation, and eating a plant-based diet, can also help mitigate the effects of climate change.
