什么是despite

Despite是一个介词，表示‘尽管’、‘不顾’、‘虽然’等意思，常用于表示虽然有某种情况或条件，但仍然发生了某种事情或行为。

尽管despite和although都有‘尽管’的意思，但它们的用法有所不同。Although后面接的是完整的句子，而despite后面接的是名词或名词性短语。例如：

Although it was raining, we still went hiking. (虽然下雨，我们仍然去了远足。)

Despite the rain, we still went hiking. (尽管下雨，我们仍然去了远足。)

despite和in spite of的意思也非常相似，都表示‘尽管’，但使用时有一定区别。in spite of后面通常跟着名词或动名词，而despite后面则可以跟名词、动名词、从句等。例如：

In spite of the heavy rain, they still went swimming. (尽管下着大雨，他们仍然去游泳了。)

Despite the fact that it was raining heavily, they still went swimming. (尽管下着大雨，他们仍然去游泳了。)
