Confederate Army Size: Peak and Decline During the Civil War

During the American Civil War, the Confederate Army varied in size throughout the conflict. At its peak in 1863, the Confederate Army numbered around 450,000 soldiers. However, this number decreased as the war went on due to casualties, desertion, and lack of resources. By the end of the war in 1865, the Confederate Army had around 175,000 soldiers.
