Hemicellulose Removal Stages: A Comprehensive Analysis

The process of removing hemicelluloses can be divided into three stages: 'initial removal', 'transition stage', and 'residual removal stage'. In the 'initial stage', cellulose fibers in an alkaline environment can easily expand, and the internal structure pores can enlarge, effectively removing low molecular weight hemicelluloses. After the 'initial stage', the remaining hemicelluloses in the fibers have a larger molecular weight, and they can only be removed by diffusion from the inside to the outside based on the concentration gradient. Therefore, only a small amount of hemicelluloses are removed in the 'transition stage'. In the 'residual removal stage', some hemicelluloses with a relatively high molecular weight are gradually removed.
