David Herold: Co-Conspirator in Lincoln's Assassination

David Herold was a co-conspirator in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. He was born on June 16, 1842, in Maryland, USA. Herold was a pharmacist by profession and had known John Wilkes Booth, the mastermind behind the assassination plot, since childhood.

On the night of April 14, 1865, Herold accompanied Booth to Ford's Theatre, where Lincoln was watching a play. After Booth shot Lincoln, he and Herold fled to Maryland, where they spent several days hiding in the woods. They eventually made their way to Virginia, where they were caught by Union soldiers on April 26.

Herold was tried and convicted of conspiracy to assassinate the president. He was hanged on July 7, 1865, along with three other co-conspirators. Before his execution, Herold expressed remorse for his actions and begged for forgiveness.
