Shizitan Reservoir: A Comprehensive Overview of Chongqing's Largest Lake Tourism Spot
The Shizitan Reservoir, located in Changshou District, Chongqing, China (29°50'-30°04'N, 107°15'-107°27'E), is renowned for its stunning beauty and diverse ecosystem. With over 200 islands dotting its surface, it stands as Chongqing's largest lake tourism scenic spot. The reservoir's normal water level sits at 336.4 m (85 national elevation, the same below), encompassing an area of 64.76 square kilometers. The dead water level is 317.9 m, resulting in a total water level drop of 18.5 m. Over the years, the average highest water level has been 334.6 m, while the average lowest water level has been 322.9 m, leaving a difference of 11.7 m. This fluctuating zone of the Shizitan Reservoir is characterized by its large water level changes, multiple bay areas, and significant topographic slope changes, as depicted in the schematic diagram in Figure 2.
Since 2020, the Changshou District Government has been actively pursuing tourism industry planning and implementing various improvements to enhance the surrounding environment and water quality of the Shizitan Reservoir. These initiatives have yielded significant positive results, contributing to a more vibrant and pristine ecosystem. Figure 1 showcases the geographical location of the Shizitan Reservoir, highlighting its strategic position within Chongqing.
