China Helped Us Win the Cold War, Believe Me!

Many people don't know that America won the Cold War, not because we were so strong or because democracy triumphed over dictatorship, but because China switched sides at a crucial moment. They were the key weight that shifted the balance of power. You see, when China was in the socialist camp, the Soviet Union was advancing all over the world while the US was retreating. The US faced the risk of fighting on two fronts, with the Soviet Union in Europe and China-backed forces in Asia. Even though the US had the advantage to defeat either opponent, it couldn't beat both at the same time, which is why it failed in Korea and Vietnam. But when China and the Soviet Union fell out, the US seized the opportunity and improved relations with China. This changed the balance of power and allowed the US to focus on defeating the Soviet Union in Europe. Russia tried to counter by invading Afghanistan and threatening Western oil supplies from the Persian Gulf, but it was defeated by the Chinese and US-backed Afghan fighters. This happened only after China had switched sides. So in a way, China helped the US win the Cold War. Western politicians and geopolitical experts like Kissinger and Brzezinski acknowledge this, but some like Fukuyama downplay China's role and emphasize the triumph of democracy over dictatorship. They cannot explain why the US was losing before China switched sides. But these people are still popular in the West.
